Viddy and Jessica

That should not have been that easy!

This is Jessica's version of Viddy deciding to do law school and getting in:
In late May Viddy came home from work and said that he had been thinking about doing law school. I said great, and in my mind I was thinking, I've thought about doing a lot of things... no big deal. Then he said, "And I've been thinking about starting in August."
"Oh," and in my mind I'm thinking, this is a little more serious than I thought.
"The application is due at the end of the week."
"Wow, let's get on it then." Again in my mind, there is no way this is going to work.
Well, he got the application in just in time and all of his letters of recommendation were sent and he was good to go. He just had to take the LSAT. So he scheduled it for the middle of June and bought some LSAT prep books online. He studied almost every night for at least an hour, sometimes two. But keep in mind that this is a test that people study months for and take prep classes for.
Anyways, I have always know that Viddy is really smart, and I wasn't super worried about him doing well. So he took the test in June and we got the scores a few weeks later. Viddy called me from work and said, "I did well, I got in the ninety oneth percentile." To which I replied, "ninety first?" Honestly, I'm the math major, it's a good thing they didn't have a grammar section.
I few weeks later in July he found out that he got into to the University of Houston. So for the next four years Viddy will be doing law school. The University of Houston apparently has a pretty good intellectual property program which is what Viddy is looking to go in to. Most days I think he enjoys it. He always has stories to tell about his classes and funny things that the teacher or other students say.
The only explanation I can give of why it worked so easy was because it is what we need to be doing in our lives right now and the Lord was with us through the process.

"You have got to be pulling on my leg!"

Name that movie! But seriously, do you ever have one of those days that you just want to scream "Are you kidding me!?!?" Well let me tell you about one of those days:
I was having a relaxing morning walking around in the pool and reading a book. I had my phone close by and I went to check the time. Before I realized what had happened I fumbled my phone and dropped it into the pool. I immediately jumped out and raced to take my phone apart and put it in some rice. (I had heard that doing this works)
I waited a few hours and took the phone out of the rice to put it back together (note: if you ever do this, leave your phone in the rice for a whole day). I set it on the counter and went to grab the other pieces. When I came back I saw tons of teeny-tiny bugs crawling out of my phone. I of course freak out and do my best to get all the bugs out of the phone and kill them as quickly as possible. In case you don't know, I hate bugs! I know I shouldn't because we live in Texas and there are all sorts or crazy creepy crawlers, but they still freak me out.
I was a little worried that these bugs had just made a home in my phone and I had been carrying bugs around for months, but then I saw lots of these little bugs in the rice that I had put my phone in. At this point I am totally grossed out because we had just eaten this rice, no joke, the day before. I closed the container and decided that when I took out the trash later I would dump the rice in the bag so that I wouldn't have to throw away the container.
The phone still didn't work, so I found another container of rice and checked it for about 2 minutes to make sure it was bug free and left my phone in there over night.
In the meantime I decided to take out the trash. So I dumped all the bug infested rice into the trash can, life the trash bag out of the can and carry it across the living room to take it outside. It was only when I reached the tile that I realized the trash bag had a hole in the bottom and I had just dumped bug infested rice all over the living room. As fast as my dejected self could, I ran for the vacuum to clean up my mess. I got all the rice vacuumed up, got a new trash bag and put the old trash bag into it and the contents of the vacuum and finally got the trash taken out.
This story does have a happy ending though. The next day I put the phone back together and it worked! This was the only thing that made the previously day slightly more bearable. I can look back now and laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, but at the time I just wanted to scream "You have got to be pulling on my leg!" -Gru on Despicable Me.

Crafty

I can't really take the credit for this craftiness because it was really one of my awesome sister-in-laws doing, but I just had to show off how awesome the end product looked. Again, I saw this idea on Pinterest and Mary made it happen.

Just in case you were wondering we eat a lot of popcorn. Probably more that any two people should.

Utah Fun

Viddy and I made the long drive from Houston to Utah this summer. The drive getting there wasn't bad at all... but the drive back was a different story. We did lots of fun things while we were there. We went hiking a couple times and these are pictures from two different hikes that we did. It's amazing how much you can miss the mountains without even realizing it. It was awesome being able to hike in cool whether again.

July 4th Fun

This year before 4th of July I saw a cake on Pinterest and showed it to Viddy. He was then determined to make it this year during 4th of July.

It might not look like much from the outside (I frosted it and that's probably why)...

...but on the inside, it's awesome!!! And it tasted pretty amazing too!

This was my creation. It was a brownie with pie cream filling on top, and there might have been some bananas mixed in there somewhere.

This summer we met some awesome people. These pictures just don't even show how awesome they are and the pictures are pretty cool. They were here for an internship over the summer and we met them right when we both moved in. We hung out with them all the time and were really sad when they had to leave to go back to school. But the best news is that they will be back in January because he accepted a job with the company that he did an internship with. We are super excited to have them back!!!

These were some other people that we met one weekend. He won his wife that unicorn and it was pretty awesome :)

Paused at the Perfect Moment

Pride and Prejudice has become one of my favorite books and the BBC version is one of my favorite movies. Viddy and I were watching a little bit of the movie every night for a week or so until we finished it, and this is where we paused it one night. It was just at the perfect moment. We both busted up laughing and I had to get a picture.

Jenny and Taylor

Viddy's sister, Jenny, and her husband, Taylor, came to visit us. Taylor had an interview with a company in Houston and so they were all able to come visit us. Again we went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Butterfly Museum.

This is Jenny and Taylor's baby and we just loved having him here! Isn't he a doll!

Checking out the skull.

This is at the Butterfly Museum. It's hard to see, but if you look closely, there is a butterfly on the right side of Viddy's nose.

This is in Houston at a place called the water wall. Right before we came here Jenny and I parked in a mall parking lot so that we could walk over to the water wall. On our way out of the parking lot a mall security cop came up to us and talked to us for about 10 minutes about how we should not walk through the parking lot, "for the little one's safety." I'm pretty sure he said that statement at least 50 times. We didn't even park that far away from the exit, and we got to the mall about 45 minutes before it opened so there was no one in the parking lot, but he still felt the need to make sure that we would keep the little one safe by not walking through the lot. At first we thought the guy was joking, but after he had talked to us for forever we couldn't help but laughing as soon as he was out of ear shot. Oh the fun people you meet in a big city :)

Friends from Tucson

This summer we had some really good friends that we knew in Tucson move to Texas. They are still a few hours away, but whenever we get together we have a lot of fun! Here are some things that we did when they visited Houston.

We went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science and to the Butterfly Exhibit. I have to admit that this is one of the more impressive pictures of the day.

After having visited the butterfly museum several times, I have come to have favorites. This is one of my favorite butterflies, but it is really hard to get a good picture of how awesome the inside of its wings are.

We went swimming

And their boys had fun playing with Viddy

Maybe a little too much fun :)

This picture can't really show how big this spider was. I was just glad that it wasn't on the path because I may have had a heart attack.

The blurry thing on the right and right bottom corner of this picture is the dock. This big guy came up pretty close to us.
